Celes King III, a husband, a father, a trail blazer for the advancement of African Americans, a advocate for civil rights, a humanitarian to his community, a businessman, a bails bondmen, a outspoken black activist and founding state chairman of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), to name a few, yes, a man of many faces.
Prior to Celes demise (2000) Celes commissioned artist Mohammed Mubarak to paint his 30x40 unframed oil portrait and set his personal signature of approval upon its canvas. Over the many years Celes had a positive impact on the civil rights struggles in America. I have noted some of his achievements. But, most importantly he was instrumental on bailing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the freedom advocates from jail, during the civil rights era. Celes with his confidant the late Dr. Alphonso E. Hamilton, publisher of FREEDOM JOURNAL and others associates worked hard thouhout the years for the betterment of mankind. Celes with Mrs. King, was instrumental in renaming Santa Barbara Blvd, “Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. As a result of this endeavor and due diligence, major streets in the USA were also named after Dr. King. Celes has had a positive impact on the lives of African Americans, black politicians now still in office and their families, so much so that the City of Los Angeles with the cooperation of former L.A.P.D. On July 21, 2013 the Celes King III portrait attended the Antique Road Show in Anaheim Convention Center, California. Estimated appraisal for the Oil portrait is approximately$10,000-$15,000.
Our goal is to donate Tuskegee Airman Brig. Gen. Celes King III Portrait and pictorial memorabilia (numerous pictures) historical collection to the National African-American Cultural and History Museum, Washington, D.C.
